3dtotal: Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you, what do you do, and where are you located?

Vladimir Silkin: Hi guys! I'm a 3D artist at Plarium. I was born in the Ukraine, and I'm living in Kharkiv, the first capital of my country. I consider myself a self-taught artist, because I started my journey in 3D from the "Help” tab in 3ds Max in 2005.

3dt: Where did you find the inspiration for your latest gallery entry, Servant views? What's the story behind its creation?

VS: I was amazed and am still inspired by the fantastic artist, Anastasios Gionis, and his concepts. I did this character during the outstanding course with Gio Nakpil.

3dt: What software and plug-ins did you use to create this image? Did you face any difficulties, and how did you overcome them?

VS: I used ZBrush for the sculpting process and Marmoset Toolbag 2 for rendering the final images. Nevertheless, I had difficulties creating the hands of my character. It was really important to create anatomy that would look natural in this particular case.

3dt: Do you normally use this software in your workflow? What other software and plug-ins do you favor?

VS: My main 3D packages are 3ds Max for modeling and ZBrush for digital sculpting.

3dt: Are there any particular techniques that you use often? Or do you like to experiment?

VS: I always start with the primary forms and volumes and gradually add details and shapes.

3dt: What are your artistic ambitions?

VS: I want to be someone whose work will be inspirational for others artists. I want my characters to be used as a reference and want guys from the community to say, "Wow! His characters are awesome!"

3dt: What software would you like to learn in the future to expand your portfolio and skillset, and why?

VS: The way I see things is that software is not the point. You need to develop a knowledge of anatomy, proportions, volumes, gestures and sculpting skills. That's how I think.

3dt: How do you keep your portfolio up-to-date? Any tips?

VS: Just do your best. My goal is simple – each new character must be better than the previous one. This is the best way to expand your portfolio. And one more thing like Steve Jobs used to say – never stop learning and practice.

3dt: What can we expect to see from you next?

VS: Hit the "Follow” button in my ArtStation profile and wait for more badass characters!
